Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Godley School

Here are a couple of photos sent to us by Stephen Burton with the following text.


"My mother Florence Burton (Maiden name Houghton) was born and lived until marriage in Bottom Street near to Newton Station. She and her brothers went to Godley School on High Street..."

Thanks again for sharing your pictures
I love looking at the faces.. and some them look familiar to me... My dad was born in 1912 so it gives me some idea of what he and his school friends would have dressed like. I noticed most are wearing clogs. Such clear pictures.
